Biotic and Abiotic Interactions Shape Seed Germination of a Fire-Prone Species

چکیده
Both biotic and abiotic environmental filters drive the occurrence, distribution, persistence of plant species. Amongst drivers that influence distribution plants in harsh environments, seed predation temperature are particularly important habitats prone to fire. In this study, we highlight combined effects high simulating fire understand its on germination percentage speed species Copaifera oblongifolia. Groups seeds attacked by beetles Rhinochenus brevicollis Apion sp., manipulated ant Atta laevigata, left intact were put germinate controlled environments. To evaluate filters, with elaiosomes removed laevigata exposed temperatures 27, 60, 100, 200 °C. The results showed only 2.8% R. germinated. Seeds sp. germinated faster, followed their elaiosomes. had lowest percentage. °C killed embryos, whereas 100 took longer than other temperatures. Our reveal intensity damage C.

Responses to previous reviews This LTREB proposal was submitted in January, 2008 and was not funded. The reviewer and panel comments were very helpful in drafting a revision and in contemplating the long-term research goals of the PI. All reviewer comments prompted changes in this proposal; the most notable concerns and criticisms (italicized and shortened) from the panel summary are directly a...

Biotic and Abiotic Interactions in Ecosystems Plants live in complex environments where many biotic and abiotic factors limit or promote productivity and carbon biosequestration. Temperature and water extremes, nutrient and other resource availabilities, microbeinduced diseases, and insect attacks can limit plant productivity. At the same time, this productivity intimately depends on plant inte...

Many metagenomic sequencing studies have observed the presence of closely related bacterial species or genotypes in the same microbiome. Previous attempts to explain these patterns of microdiversity have focused on the abiotic environment, but few have considered how biotic interactions could drive patterns of microbiome diversity. We dissected the patterns, processes, and mechanisms shaping th...
